What is the "art" ? The purpose of art
According to a dictionary, the word “art” is defined as “activities for creating a beauty.” Yes, art must be beautiful, at the same time, artworks must be produced not from copying or imitating already-existing but creating something new. What is the purpose of beauty, or the purpose of art? Beauty gives pleasure and happiness, or makes them feel in our mind. If so, the purpose of beauty is closely related to our purpose of life. It also makes this world more peaceful, and leads mankind to happiness in more essential sense. I have tried to produce something original, unique and new without copying anything shown in nature and manmade existence. I, however, do not want to reject realistic-looking pictures, which copying nature. I would continue studying and analyzing such artworks. Abstract pictures, however, are more original, and it does not include imitate ability. That is why I have mainly concentrated on the study of abstract pictures, and will continue doing so. Some of you may wonder what is the meaning or aim when seeing an abstract picture. I would say to such people that art is not only for understanding the meaning of a picture but also for feeling beauty by seeing the picture. In such a sense, abstract pictures are similar to music. Many satisfy music by fully feeling the beauty of melody despite they cannot understand the meaning of melody and lyrics. On the other hand, many give up to feel the beauty of abstract pictures because it is hard for them to grasp the meaning of the pictures. Realistic pictures include imitation of beings, sight scope, still life and so forth. That is why it is easy to comprehend what the artist want to express. Art, however, is not copying and imitating something but creating something new as the dictionary states. Therefore I hope you to feel beauty of color and shape even though you cannot comprehend the meaning or sense of the works. Some of abstract pictures pursue only the beauty of shape, and have no meaning or message. But others have deep meaning on the pictures. In order to avoid that you reply “I cannot understand!” I would give explanations for each picture to convey my aiming, motive, and meaning. Each passage is a poem for each picture. Each picture and passage for the picture makes a pair as my artworks. As an artist, I have tried to make new pictures, which has ever existed by researching, developing, and studying about originality and creativity. I want to create artworks in order to lead worldwide peace, and to build up people’s happiness. I do not spare time with motive same as a jeweler makes so expensive product, which is the only one in this world. I would fully devote myself, and put priority to quality rather than quantity. I would pay my diligent effort to create truly valuable pictures. I regard my abstract pictures as music created by colors. That is why I call my unique and original way of painting as the “Picture Music.” As the Picture Musician, I would continue paying full devotion to create quite new, beautiful, and advanced pictures with using shapes, lines, and colors. |

What is the “Picture Music”?
“Picture Music” is pictures consisted of colors and shapes, and metaphoric to music. “Picture Music” is an abstract picture. It, however, has musical elements, and is based on senses of beauty. For “Picture Music”, usage of colors and shapes has certain tendency. Some aspects of the tendency can be explained, and others cannot. The tendency, however, is not rules, or regulations of “Picture Music.” Of course, it is also not absolute. For instance, shape and color are factors of beauty same as harmony, balance, proportion, object, rhythm, and emphasis. Especially shape and color have characteristics for appealing beings’ senses of beauty. Ball and circle remind us peace, harmony, happiness, joy and so forth. Also they are related to eternity, which never have both beginning and end. Circle is two-dimensions, and ball is 3-D. Circle and ball convey the sense of freedom and mobility; also they tell tenderness and love. Circle and ball are feminine. On the other hand, square is masculine and stable. It reminds us toughness and firm. Triangle is sharp, and it has firm stability. Sharp-pointed triangle expresses keen sharpness, and conveys something stabbing peoples’ hearts. Pipes remind us something for supply or connection as we imagine water piping, gas, or electric lines. Thin lines like fingerprints convey the sense of scrupulous passion, and mobility. Gear-like shapes make us imagine activeness, energy, or diligent. Pillars remind us hope because they grow for the future. Each color also has different roll and feeling. Red conveys love and passion. Blue tells us reason, intelligence, and calmness. Green conveys healing to our heart with refreshment. Yellow reminds us light and hope. Purple expresses mysterious mood. Pink illustrates dream and roman. Gray and brown give the taste for the simple and somber, or refinement, which most Japanese favorably accept. Black signifies darkness, soundness, and seriousness. White reminds us righteousness, cleanliness, and innocence. These are explanations of the regulative tendency. These, however, are not an absolute rule. A way of feeling and grasping shape and color is different from each individual. In this world, each has different preference, personality, way of feeling and grasping. That is why we experience changes and variety in our lives, and such experiences makes us joyful and happy. Sufficiently utilizing the regulative tendency, expressing beauty at the highest level is the artworks metaphoric to music. That is “Picture Music.” |
